Image Description

In the initial phase, there may be marked acute inflammation and even necrosis. This is replaced by granulomatous response consisting of sheets of histiocytes and foreign body giant cells which try to surround and contain the extravasated spermatozoa. Chronic inflammation and fibrosis may create a nodular, mass-like lesion clinically mimicking a neoplasm. Ref: Oliva E, Young RH. Semin Diagn Pathol 2000 Nov; 17(4):340-58.
