Microscopic Features: Gonadoblastomas show multiple discrete nodules composed of germ cells, sex cord cells, and eosinophilic deposits of basement membrane material which are often calcified. The nodules are scattered in a spindle cell stroma that may contain occasional Leydig cells.
The areas of calcification range from small psammoma bodies to large mulberry-like aggregates (as shown here). Some cases are composed predominantly of calcified areas with little or no cellular elements (burnt-out gonadoblastoma).
