Image Description

Cryosurgical therapy is sometimes used as a primary modality to treat localized prostate cancer. It can also be used as salvage therapy in patients with recurrent tumors following radiation. The image shows a post-cryotherapy prostate biopsy. The normal architecture is replaced by acellular hyalinized areas containing hemosiderin-laded macrophages. Prostatic acini were largely absent from most specimens in this 10-core biopsy.
