Image Description

Most cases of basal cell hyperplasia encountered in prostate needle biopsies can be easily distinguished from adenocarcinoma with routine H&E stains alone. In challenging cases, immunostaining with basal cell specific markers such as high molecular weight cytokeratin (HMWCK) and p63 can help. The image shows diffuse strong staining with HMWCK in a focus of basal cell hyperplasia.
