Image Description

Incidentally sampled rectal mucosa is a common finding in the prostate needle biopsies given the transrectal approach used for this procedure. The presence and the amount of rectal tissue appears to be operator-dependent (personal unpublished observation). The sampled rectal tissue may be columnar or squamous mucosa. We have seen one case each of hyperplastic polyp and ulcerative proctitis involving incidentally sampled rectal mucosa.
