Paraganglia are normal anatomic structures that may be mistaken for prostatic adenocarcinoma. They are usually present outside the prostate adjacent to the posterolateral neurovascular bundles. Rarely, they are present within the outer peripheral zone of the prostate. They are encountered in prostate needle biopsies quite rarely. They are composed of a compact cluster of polygonal cells with clear or amphophilic cytoplasm (shown here).
