Image Description

Higher magnification of the previous image. The acini show nuclear enlargement and crowding with scant cytoplasm. This imparts a basophilic appearance to the focus. In contrast, foci of adenocarcinoma typically show abundant pale pink or amphophilic cytoplasm. A few nuclei have punctate nucleoli; however, macronucleoli, which are a frequent finding in cancer, are absent here. Many acini show multilayering of nuclei.
