Image Description
Hepatic Cysts in Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD): The most common extrarenal manifestation in ADPKD is hepatic cysts, seen in 40%-50% of patients. They are derived from the biliary epithelium. They are more common in females and their prevalence and size increases with age. Most cases are asymptomatic, but some may produce symptoms due to hepatic venous outflow obstruction, hemorrhage into cysts, or infection. In rare cases, hepatic cysts can cause portal hypertension and esophageal varices. Image copyright: pathorama.ch
