Image Description
Whole slide scan showing low power view of a papillary urothelial carcinoma involving the renal pelvis. The genetic alterations seen in these tumors are similar to those occurring in the urinary bladder. Vast majority (>80%) of non-invasive papillary urothelial carcinomas show mutations in fibroblastic growth factor receptor3 (FGFR3) gene. Tumors with FGFR3 mutations appear to carry a lower risk of recurrence than those without.
