Image Description

Renal cell carcinoma is usually a tumor of adults with a male:female ratio of 2:1. The cases arising in children are frequently associated with translocations involving TFE3 gene on chromosome Xp11.2. This partial nephrectomy specimen shows the classic appearance of renal cell carcinoma. The tumor is well-circumscribed and has the characteristic golden-yellow appearance. The golden-yellow color is due to intracytoplasmic lipid.
