Image Description

Telangiectatic oncocytoma is an uncommon variant that accounts for about 15% of all renal oncocytomas. Due to its vascularity, it is often misdiagnosed radiologically as a malignant or a suspicious renal neoplasm.

Grossly, it appears as a well-circumscribed, dark-brown hemorrhagic spongy mass without a central stellate scar.

The specimen photograph shows an incidentally discovered 3.5 cm telangiectatic oncocytoma in the kidney of a 50 y/o male. Image courtesy of: Dr. Karen Pinto, Dept. of Pathology, Kuwait; Used with permission.
