Image Description
Microscopic Features: Psammoma bodies and foci of dystrophic calcification within stroma are common in metanephric adenomas. In rare cases, the tumor may be entirely calcified.
In addition, the tumor may undergo secondary changes such as hemorrhage and cyst formation. When these changes are extensive, the tumors appear grossly cystic, and on microscopic examination show scattered tubules in a sclerotic background.
This low magnification view shows numerous psammoma bodies in a background of tightly packed small tubules.
