Image Description
Glomangioma of Kidney: Glomus-like tumors may be rarely seen in the kidneys. Glomus tumor is a rare neoplasm that arises from the glomus body - a specialized arteriovenous anastomosis that regulates heat. It classically occurs as a painful, bluish-red nodule in the deep dermis or subcutis of upper or lower extremities. The most common location is subungual region of the finger, followed by palm, wrist, forearm, and foot. However, isolated cases have been reported in almost every organ/location of the body, including kidney as shown in this case. In this image, the tumor is on the right and consists of a sheet of uniform cells punctuated by large, stag-horn blood vessels. This variant is referred to as glomangioma.
