Image Description

Angiomyolipoma (AML) in Tuberous Sclerosis: Multiple variably-sized yellow tumor nodules are present in the renal pelvis and throughout the cortex. The tumor nodule in the upper pole (lower right corner of the image) shows a focus of hemorrhage. AMLs are multifocal in about 30% of cases and bilateral in about 15% of cases. About one-third of patients with AML have tuberous sclerosis and about 80% of patients with severe form of tuberous sclerosis develop AMLs. AMLs in the setting of tuberous sclerosis are frequently bilateral, multiple, occur at younger age, and affect both genders. Image copyright: pathorama.ch
