Intestinal-type adenocarcinoma of the stomach showing papillary growth pattern. Intestinal and diffuse type gastric carcinomas follow different molecular genetic pathways. Intestinal type tumor follows a step-wise progression from chronic gastritis to intestinal metaplasia, dysplasia, CIS, and invasive carcinoma. There is no known precursor for diffuse type gastric carcinoma.
