Gastric Adenocarcinoma, Diffuse Type (Linitis Plastica; Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma)
Image Description
Low magnification view of stomach wall from a case of signet ring cell carcinoma. The tumor cells are present within the bands of fibrosis in between muscle bundles. At this magnification, one can hardly appreciate the presence of a neoplasm. Due to the inconspicuous nature of the tumor cells and accompanying inflammation and fibrosis, signet ring cell carcinoma is easily missed, especially in small biopsies.
