Pancreatoblastoma : Gross Pathology
Image Description
Gross Pathology: Pancreatoblastomas are usually large tumors ranging in size from 1 to 20 cm (mean size 10 cm). They are solid, well-circumscribed, solitary masses that are frequently partially encapsulated. Cut surface is soft, lobulated, and yellow-white or gray with fibrous bands. Cystic change (arrows) and hemorrhagic foci are commonly seen. Cases associated with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome may be mostly cystic.
Case History: The image shows pancreatoblastoma in a 11-yr old female who presented with abdominal pain, vomiting, and syncope after minor trauma. CT abdomen with contrast showed a large, heterogenous, well-circumscribed mass in the pancreas. Photograph of the resected specimen shows a variegated lobulated tumor with solid, cystic, and hemorrhagic areas. Image source: Chung E M, Travis M D, Conran R M.
