Liver Hemangioma : Gross Pathology
Image Description
Gross Pathology - Capillary Hemangiomas of Liver: Peripherally located hemangiomas appear as reddish- or bluish-purple lesions under the intact liver capsule. On cut surface, capillary hemangiomas are small, sharply-demarcated, irregular, dark red-brown hemorrhagic, spongy lesions with slightly depressed surface compared to the adjacent liver tissue. Long-standing lesions can undergo sclerosis and calcification and acquire tan-white, scar-like appearance. Most cases are asymptomatic and are discovered incidentally on imaging for unrelated pathology, or at autopsy, or during laparotomy.
