Image Description

Uncommon histologic findings in adenomatous polyps include: neuroendocrine cells, Paneth cells, squamous metaplasia, clear cell change (shown here), melanocytes, multinucleated giant cells, malakoplakia of polyp stroma, osseous metaplasia, and metastases from another location.

The image shows a microcarcinoid discovered in a tubular adenoma. It is important to not diagnose these as carcinoma. Image courtesy of: Laura G. Pastrián MD, La Paz University Hospital, Madrid, Spain.
