Crohn Disease : Complications
Image Description
Complications of Crohn Disease (continued): Over time, patients with Crohn disease can develop several nutritional deficiencies, including iron deficiency anemia, hypoalbuminemia, serum protein loss, generalized nutrient malabsorption, and vitamin deficiencies.
Long-standing cases develop intestinal strictures (as shown in this image) requiring surgery. Strictures recur at the anastomotic sites in about 40% of cases necessitating further resections. Image courtesy of Dr. Jean-Christophe Fournet, Paris, France; humpath.com; Used with permission.
