Pure signet ring cell carcinomas of the colon are rare. This image shows conventional glandular component on the right abruptly transitioning into signet ring cell areas on the left. By definition, at least 50% of the tumor should be composed of signet ring cells for the designation of signet ring cell carcinoma.
