Image Description

The treatment of lymphocytic colitis is similar to that for collagenous colitis. Some patients have spontaneous remissions. Others require therapy with over-the-counter anti-diarrheals and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents. Most patients respond to therapy and the prognosis is good. A small number of patients with lymphocytic colitis show celiac disease-like changes and are refractory to all therapies.

This image shows the characteristic histologic features of LC - surface epithelial damage, increased intraepithelial lymphocytes, no increase in the thickness of subepithelial collagen, and normal crypt architecture.
