Large Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of Gallbladder
Image Description
Large Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of Gallbladder: A small percentage of poorly-differentiated neuroendocrine carcinomas of gallbladder and bile ducts have large cell morphology (large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma; LCNEC). They consist of large, monotonous cells in solid sheets or organoid pattern, frequently with rosette formation (as in this case) and areas of confluent necrosis. The cells have large vesicular nuclei, prominent nucleoli, abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm, and high mitotic rate. One-third of LCNECs contain another component such as adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma.
