Growth Patterns: Dysplasia in gallbladder can have multiple growth patterns, including flat with gentle undulations, tubular, micropapillary/tufting, and tall papillary (shown here).
Tall papillary pattern is seen in 25% of cases. At microscopic level, especially at high magnification, this pattern resembles tumoral intraepithelial neoplasms. However, dysplasia does not form a mass lesion that can be recognized grossly or on imaging studies. If there is a visible polypoid mass, the more appropriate diagnosis is intracholecystic papillary-tubular neoplasm.
