Chronic Acalculous Cholecystitis: The inflammatory pattern is usually non-specific but shows greater proportion of eosinophils than in patients with gallstones. Other cases show one of three histologic patterns: eosinophilic cholecystitis, diffuse lymphoplasmacytic acalculous cholecystitis, and lymphocytic cholecystitis. These are discussed in greater detail in the subsequent sections. In gallbladders with outflow obstruction, there are prominent Rokitansky-Aschoff sinuses and the smooth muscle layer is thickened (as shown here).
