Gangrenous cholecystitis - Macroscopic Features: It is a severe form of acute cholecystitis usually seen in the setting of comorbidities such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and trauma. The gallbladder is typically enlarged and has greenish-black discoloration. It is filled with necrotic debris that may be admixed with purulent, thick bile. Microscopically, mucosa and muscularis are completely necrotic and replaced by acute inflammatory infiltrate and granulation tissue.
