Image Description

Sarcomatoid carcinoma (Carcinosarcoma, Spindle cell carcinoma) generally grow as a polypoid mass in mid to distal esophagus. Due to their polypoid growth pattern, dysphagia occurs early and the overall survival rate is slightly better than that expected. The carcinomatous regions have either basaloid or squamous epithelial features and they are intimately associated with the spindle cell component as depicted here.
