Image Description

They are usually single, pedunculated lesions most often seen in the upper third of the esophagus. They present with dysphagia and can even cause death due to laryngeal obstruction. They are composed of fibrovascular tissue with stromal edema and sprinkling of inflammatory cells. The overlying squamous mucosa may be intact, attenuated, or ulcerated.
