Image Description

Grocott's methenamine silver (GMS) stain is useful for the identification of fungal organisms in tissue sections and cytosmears. It reacts with mucopolysaccharides in the fungal wall rendering them dark brown to black against a light green background.

This image shows fungal hyphae as well as yeast-forms in the superficial layers of squamous mucosa of esophagus.
