Image Description

Intramucosal carcinoma in Barrett esophagus is defined as invasion of neoplastic glands into the lamina propria above the level of muscularis mucosa. In other words, the tumor has not yet invaded beyond the muscularis mucosa into the submucosa. Most biopsies are superficial and submucosal invasion cannot be definitively excluded.
