Image Description

Entamoeba histolytica is a rare cause of acute appendicitis. Appendicular involvement is often secondary to the spread of infection from the right colon. This low magnification view shows a dense acute and chronic inflammatory infiltrate in the wall of the appendix. Several trophozoites of E. histolytica are present near the center of the image which are better appreciated in the next few images.
