Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PP) associated with low-grade mucinous tumor of the appendix (Diffuse Peritoneal Adenomucinosis). The image shows an area of fibrosis induced by the mucin. Notwithstanding the low-grade cytologic atypia in the mucinous epithelium, PP is a relentless, progressive condition that is eventually fatal if left untreated. The cause of death is usually intestinal obstruction secondary to mucin-induced fibrosis.
