Image Description

This 51 y/o male presented with a non-tender, nodular thyroid mass on the left side of his neck. The mass had gradually increased to its current size (almost 11 cms) over a period of 6 years. A Technetium-99m Thyroid scan showed it to be a cold nodule. Subtotal thyroidectomy with complete removal of the left lobe and isthmus was done (see gross specimen in the next image). Microscopically, it was a follicular carcinoma. Case courtesy of: Dr. Sanjay D. Deshmukh, Professor of Pathology, Smt. Kashibai Navale Medical College, Pune, India.
