Image Description

Prognosis of Insulinomas: Over 90% of insulinomas pursue an indolent course and are cured by surgery. Aggressive behavior with tendency to metastases is seen in 7-10% of cases. The usual sites of metastases are liver and regional lymph nodes. Malignant insulinomas are large in size (mean size 6 cm). Loss of DAXX or ATRX expression is associated with adverse prognosis.

The image shows slender cords and trabecule of tumor cells separated by copious hyalinized stroma in an insulinoma.
