Adrenal cortical adenomas may be discovered incidentally at autopsy or during imaging studies performed for other reasons. Some tumors present themselves with hormonal dysfunction as was seen in this case. Adenomas are usually small, solitary and encapsulated tumors. They rarely exceed 5 cm in size or 50 g in weight. The image shows a solid, homogenous, yellow-orange adenoma of the adrenal cortex in a 25 y/o female with Cushing syndrome. Note the rim of uninvolved cortex to the right and left of the tumor mass.
