Some cases of pilomatrixoma show melanin pigment both within basaloid cells as well as in histiocytes. Rare histologic features include clear cell change in basaloid cells and stromal amyloid.
Pilomatrixoma is cured by surgical excision. Recurrences occur in 2-3% of cases.
