Molluscum Contagiosum : Diagnosis
Image Description
Molluscum Contagiosum - Diagnosis:The diagnosis of molluscum contagiosum is usually made on clinical examination by identifying the typical papules. A scrape or squash preparation of the lesion may show characteristic viral inclusions in ghost cells (Henderson Patterson Bodies). See discussion of histopathologic features in the next few images.
The virus cannot be grown on routine viral culture media. Virus-specific immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, or PCR analysis may be used in difficult cases.
