Image Description

Common warts are caused by HPV types 1, 2, 4, 7, and 26-29. In immunosuppressed patients, HPV types 75, 76, and 77 may be pathogenic. Common warts in children may be caused sometimes by types 6 and 11 which are usually associated with genital warts. Similarly, HPV-16 - a common genital HPV type - has been detected in non-genital cutaneous warts in immunocompetent patients.

Common wart caused by HPV-2 may occur on the vulva in girls younger than 5 years. These non-venereal lesions may be mistaken for condyloma acuminata and raise the concern of sexual abuse.

The image shows common wart arising on the trunk of an adult male.
