Eosinophilic Myocarditis
Image Description
Myocarditis is defined as inflammation of the myocardium with leukocyte infiltration and non-ischemic destruction of myocytes (Dallas criteria). The inflammatory infiltrate usually consists of lymphocytes admixed with other cell types. In eosinophilic myocarditis (hypersensitivity myocarditis), the infiltrate contains abundant eosinophils. This low magnification view shows ongoing inflammation and interstitial fibrosis in the center of the field.
