Role of HMGA2: HMGA family of proteins (HMGA1a, HMGA1b, HMGA1c, and HMGA2) regulate gene expression by binding to AT-rich regions in the minor groove of DNA. HMGA2 is highly expressed in embryonic stem cells during embryogenesis and plays a key role in the normal development of mesodermal tissues. Its expression is more limited during later stages of development and in adulthood. HMGA2 is dysregulated and re-expressed in nearly all human cancers.
