Secretory Carcinoma of Breast : Molecular Genetics
Image Description
Another example of secretory carcinoma of breast from a young female. The tumor cells have abundant amphophilic granular or vacuolated cytoplasm. Note the resemblance to acinic cell carcinoma of salivary glands. The two entities may be related since a similar molecular genetic abnormality has been found in both tumors - a recurrent balanced chromosomal translocation, t(12;15)(p13;q25), which leads to the formation of ETV6-NTRK3 fusion gene. Further studies are awaited for the confirmation of this relationship.
