Treatment of Synovial Sarcoma: Synovial sarcoma is a high-grade sarcoma. The mainstay of treatment is radical local excision, usually involving removal of an entire muscle or muscle group with amputation. For tumors situated near a major joint, local excision is often followed by adjunctive radiation (rather than amputation). With this approach, the recurrence rate is less than 40%. Synovial sarcoma also responds partially or completely in about 50% of patients to chemotherapeutic regimens consisting of ifosfamide and doxorubicin.
