High power view showing benign chondrocytes in the cartilaginous cap of an osteochondroma. Most osteochondromas arise as solitary lesions. About 15% of patients have multiple osteochondromas (hereditary multiple exostoses) – an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by germline mutations in EXT1 or EXT2 tumor suppressor genes.
