Comments:
The cytologic changes induced by radiation can be detected for years in the prostate following cessation of therapy. The atypia is more pronounced following radioactive seed implantation (brachytherapy) as compared to external beam radiation. This post-brachytherapy biopsy shows small atrophic glands haphazardly scattered in a fibrotic stroma. The glands have irregular outlines, small angulated lumens, and atypical nuclei.
