Comments:
Molluscum Contagiosum - Diagnosis:The diagnosis of molluscum contagiosum is usually made on clinical examination by identifying the typical papules at sites discussed in the previous slide. A scrape or squash preparation of the lesion may show characteristic viral inclusions in ghost cells (Henderson Patterson Bodies). See discussion of histopathologic features in the next few images.

The virus cannot be grown on routine viral culture media. Virus-specific immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, or PCR analysis may be used in difficult cases.

The photograph shows numerous papules of molluscum contagiosum on penis, scrotum, inner thighs, and pubic region.
