Myeloid Sarcoma : Breast

Myeloid sarcoma of breast is considered diagnostic of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and is managed by AML-type systemic regimens regardless of the bone marrow and peripheral blood status. Local therapy alone is associated with unacceptably high relapse rate. Management includes prophylaxis for cerebrospinal fluid and close follow-up for extramedullary recurrence.

The image shows a diffuse infiltrate of medium to large mononuclear cells with effacement of normal architecture. The tumor cells have scant to moderate amounts of cytoplasm, finely dispersed chromatin, and punctate nucleoli.
