Comments:
This field shows predominantly spindle cells along with a few gemistocyte-like cells. Immunoreactivity for both GFAP and neuronal markers has been reported, sometimes within the same cells. The differential diagnosis of SEGA includes gemistocytic astrocytoma. SEGA is an intraventricular tumor whereas gemistocytic astrocytoma is parenchymal. SEGA lacks an infiltrative growth pattern and is less intensely positive for GFAP unlike gemistocytic astrocytoma. Increased mitotic activity or necrosis are seldom seen in SEGA.
