Nevus sebaceus from scalp showing papillomatosis, hyperkeratosis and sebaceous hyperplasia. Note the absence of hair follicles.

Sebaceous glands are abnormal in their morphology and distribution in a nevus sebaceus. They are often present high within the dermis and sometimes communicate directly with the epidermal surface (see higher magnification in the next image).
