Basal cell-specific markers such as high molecular weight cytokeratin (shown here) and p63 play an important role in the diagnosis of pseudohyperplastic variant of prostate cancer. The atypical glands completely lack basal cells. The image contains an internal positive control in the form of benign glands along the right edge.
