Comments:
Microscopically, Peutz-Jeghers polyps show a complex glandular architecture lined by normal appearing epithelium. The lamina propria shows arborizing network of smooth muscle fascicles that are contiguous with muscularis mucosa. The smooth muscle becomes progressively thinner as it reaches the polyp surface. Besides the columnar epithelium and goblet cells, other cell types such as Paneth cells may also be present. There is no atypia.
